Freelance Paralegal
Being a freelance paralegal is quite possible and you can make between $15 and $35 per hour or more. Your choices are to work in someone's office or work at home, but you are your own boss, at least on paper. I say "on paper" because in reality you are part of the legal team and your status as an independent contractor doesn't change real world relationships or how work is given to you.
So you will have to take care of your own social security, your own retirement, your own taxes and insurance. You have the benefit of tax deductions not available to those who are employed, and this is a good compensation. If you work at home you can take a home office deduction, which is especially useful if you rent and do not have the benefit of mortgage interest deductions.
That say, a freelance paralegal must always find new clients and there will be slow periods. There will be times when you have no work and other times when you are buried.
A lot of paralegals don't think about other opportunities such as having their own business. I don't mean self-employment, I mean your own business. A business makes money for you whether you put in so many hours this week or not. There are a lot of businesses that a paralegal can start but a great one is litigation funding.
What you do is this: you advance money to plaintiffs who are involved in personal injury and tort suits. When they win, their lawyers pay off these loans. If they lose, nobody owes anything to anyone.
Lawsuit funding is a home based franchise that does good in the world. People need this service. And it is very lucrative for those in it. You can pursue your business nicely because you already know how to work with lawyers. And you can do this part time in between your freelance paralegal practice. I have prepared a 9 page instant report on the business for paralegals. Please enter your email and I will never ever give your information to anyone and you can unsubscribe any time. Thanks!
