My wife is a lawyer and when she was pregnant with our first child she decided to become self-employed. She was a partner at a law firm but she had enough of commuting an hour or so each way every day, and working long hours in someone else's practice. So she set up her own law practice at home.

And there is no reason why you can't do that. If you are a paralegal you can work at home. You can have children and have a fulfilling life. You can home school if you want. And you can do this all from the standpoint of someone working from home.
