Finding the right home based franchise or business opportunity for your skillset

I just love Joel Libava's blog The Franchise King, and Joel has a great post today on finding a franchise that matches your skillset:

Sales. Networking. Creating business relationships.
Are you great at those skills? Is that your highway to success?

Or do your skill sets in business lean more to the background operations?

Everybody has different skill sets. Some folks are better in the operations area of a small business. Some folks are better at the technical end. Some folks are good at sales, and marketing.

In the world of franchise ownership, one way to really lower your risk is to match up to opportunities that utilize and benefit from the things that you are the best at. Really.

Currently, several of the concepts I am trying to find great franchise owners for are focused towards the sales and marketing model. This model requires a lot less of an investment. $$   Really.

I hope Joel pardons my quoting his entire post. Please go to Joel's blog and browse through it and add it to your RSS reader. It is that good. Essential reading!

Okay, so now let me comment on why I like this post so much. People are constantly looking for a good home based business opportunity or home based franchise. They go from one idea to another. Trouble is, most of these ideas require a high degree of sales. And most people don't possess a high drive to sit on the phone or go to calls day after day, trying to make sales. They just don't have the ability to persevere doing this.

I call most people "reactive" in that their business skills are best applied to reacting to things. The opposite is proactive. A proactive business skillset is highly entrepreneurial. Make things happen. Even when the whole world is negative towards what you are trying to make happen. And it is. Very few people can do this.

Listen. I sat in my garage at 5:00am and made call after call, almost never getting through to any decision-makers. I did that for months. And I am not an early morning person. My wife was against this idea I had. She wanted me to get a job. But I did it anyway. And it became very successful. Eventually.

(By the way, great time to subscribe to my list and get an exclusive detailed 9 page report on how you can run your own lawsuit funding business from home, maybe make oodles of money and you don't have to spend a dime to do it. Find out why this little known business is exploding and why you should think about it for yourself.)

Most people who want to own a franchise or get into a home based business opportunity or franchise aren't going to have that entrepreneurial drive. And there's nothing wrong with that. But just realize who you are. Be realistic. There is plenty of room and plenty of opportunity even if you are not a proactive entrepreneur.

What you can do instead is find a success formula and copy it. FInd one where you have a coach and a mentor there to help you. That's what the best home based business opportunity or franchise really is. You don't need to be an entrepreneur and you can build your own business and find success.
