Working from home is appealing to people like you and me. But there are so many hundreds of scams out there. And there are many business opportunities that are home-based but are not particularly likely to lead to success.

I'd like to discuss a few of these.

There are very few that are worth anything. Most of what you see sold is, quite frankly, a bill of goods.

As I've pointed out before, most require too high a level of selling effort. Most people will fail in anything that calls for a lot of selling.

If you enjoy selling, you can become a rep or broker for any number of opportunities but it is tough going.

One I like most these days is litigation funding. Listen, you can get into this business even without putting up any money. There are several million people involved in lawsuits who will probably collect on those lawsuits. Meanwhile, they are living on the knife edge and you can help them by getting them a few bucks.

This is called presettlement funding, or litigation funding. And even acting as a broker, I think you can make a nice living. There are investors eager to put up the money so you don't need to put up your own money. If you want to, of course, your returns will probably be higher but even so, you can use other people's money and sleep at night.

The only selling is meeting lawyers and making friends with them. Since you are helping their clients weather the storm, they like what you are doing and they want you to help their clients. It's win-win-win all around.
